A well-known moisturiser brand has been linked to bacteria contamination

by admin

Recently, it was discovered that the popular Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer line has been recalled. It is believed that the product may contain bacteria that could cause infections in those with compromised immune systems. Some of the 3 oz. and 10 oz. packages of the moisturiser may be contaminated by the bacteria Pluralibacter Gergoviae.

The bacteria can cause severe infections and illness in people with compromised immune systems or autoimmune deficiencies. The manufacturer was forced to recall products that may contain bacteria.

Who is at Risk? Are you concerned?

Most of the cases reported in healthy people who were exposed to the bacteria resulted only in minor symptoms such as skin irritation or swelling. For people with an autoimmune disorder or who are allergic to certain strains of bacteria the symptoms can be worse.

This type of bacteria, when left untreated, is known to be antibiotic-resistant. Exposure to this bacteria can cause severe illness in those with compromised immune systems or allergies. You should seek medical attention immediately if you have symptoms that are out of the ordinary.

Physicians and doctors advise that those who are immunocompromised or have open wounds to be aware of any product recall. Check the batch number to make sure it is not listed as potentially contaminated.
