A new study suggests that air pollution and autoimmune disease are of concern

Air quality has long been an issue of concern for medical professionals. Exposure to pollution has a negative impact on the body. Recent studies have shown that air pollution may cause more health problems than originally thought. Most notably, air pollution has long been linked to respiratory illnesses and cardiopulmonary-related issues. According to a new study, there could be a connection between air pollution and autoimmunity.

New data shows a significant increase in risk for autoimmune diseases

In a recent study, over 81,000 Italian residents were examined. The study determined that various factors, such as car exhaust or other purple agents, increased the risk of a variety of diseases.

The study was conducted over a period of four years and monitored the history of 81,000+ residents in large areas of Italy. It noted an increase in the rates of cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases.

This study also used data from stations that monitor air quality to determine the increased risk of these diseases with increasing air pollution. The data collected shows that 12% of the study participants were diagnosed with an autoimmune disease following exposure to air pollution.

Data has shown that exposure to even moderate levels of pollution over time can cause significant medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory lungs disease and heart conditions.

Heavy pollution increases the risk of medical complications

According to doctors, the study also suggests that exposure to high levels of pollution increases the risk for cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases, and lung disease. The study found that those who are exposed to high levels of pollution for a long time have the highest risk of developing medical conditions.

Researchers and doctors were quick to note that pollution not only affects the respiratory system but also nearly every other organ and system of the body. This increases the risk of developing many illnesses.

It is important to note, however, that the exact cause of the rise in autoimmune diseases due to pollution is not known at this time. It’s obvious that the air that we breathe has a direct impact on our health and well-being.
